TopShelf: Turning Loss Into Legacy and Momentum

February 9, 2026 | Street Money Magazine

For the independent rap duo TopShelf, music isn’t just a creative outlet — it’s a mission. Consisting of sisters Bae B and Da-Most, TopShelf began their journey just one year ago, driven by purpose, pain, and love. Their decision to step into music was rooted in honoring the legacy of their brother Montel G. Williams AKA MG, a rapper whose life was tragically cut short three years ago by a drunk driver.

What started as a way to keep his name and spirit alive has quickly evolved into a growing independent movement built on consistency, authenticity, and resilience.

A Year In: From “420” to a Growing Catalog

TopShelf’s first release, “420,” marked the beginning of their path as artists. The track was inspired by an event they were attending at the time, but it ultimately became symbolic — the spark that lit their journey. Now, just one year later, the duo is actively releasing singles while learning the music business from the ground up, completely independent and without management.

Their current run of releases includes:

  • “F.A.F.O. (F* Around and Find Out)”**
  • “Never at the Bottom”
  • “We Outside” — a high-energy track aimed at the ladies

Individually, both sisters are carving out their own lanes as well:

  • Bae B – “Let Me Breathe”, a deeper, more lyrical record
  • Da-Most – “PSA”, a confident anthem made for the girls

Each release adds another layer to TopShelf’s identity — raw, relatable, and grounded in real-life experience.

Creative Process: Real Life, Real Moments

TopShelf doesn’t overthink the process. Their writing happens wherever inspiration hits — in the shower, riding in the car, or even during late-night hot-box sessions. That spontaneity shows in their music, which reflects everyday situations, emotions, and conversations people actually live through.

Their goal isn’t to chase trends — it’s to create music people can vibe to and feel.

Currently, fans can find visuals for “420” and a mic-drop-style video for “Moment of Silence” on YouTube, with more music videos planned to drop in the spring or summer.

Momentum on the Stage: Shows, Competitions, and TV

TopShelf’s grind extends beyond the studio. The duo has a busy schedule lined up for 2026, including:

  • An appearance on a reality music TV show in March
  • A showcase in Orlando, Florida in April
  • Multiple competitions and showcases in Greensboro and Winston-Salem, North Carolina
  • A return to Miami in July for the Mic Check Wynwood competition.

Hailing from Greensboro, North Carolina, TopShelf has built a reputation in their city for being respectful, community-driven, and supportive of other artists — a quality that continues to earn them love both on and off the stage.

Family, Foundation, and What’s Next

Behind the scenes, TopShelf credits their parents as their biggest support system and backbone, providing encouragement and stability as they push forward in an industry that often lacks both.

Looking ahead, the duo plans to:

  • Release more music videos throughout the spring and summer
  • Begin putting together a full project/album

Street Money Final Take

TopShelf represents a new wave of independent artists who aren’t waiting for permission or validation. Their story is one of transformation — turning grief into drive and loss into legacy. With momentum building, stages lighting up, and visuals on the way, Bae B and Da-Most are proving that it’s possible to honor the past while aggressively building the future.

This is more than music.
This is purpose in motion.
